A question:

What are the rules for winning best band? Carmel’s band looked to be composed almost entirely of professionals yet they still won best band. Doesn’t seem like a band of professionals would care about the award to begin with, and it kind of deprived any student bands from a nice motivator moving forward. Don’t know what FC’s rules on this are and just wanted to clarify what happened there.

For a lot of competitions, you can have one professional. This may be regional though and I'm also interested in knowing

Zionsville. Just wow. I’m so happy I experienced that in person. Thank you for an amazing moment of music.

But I have to ask: there's no way they were actually balancing bottles on their heads, right?

Anybody know who Counterpoints’ choreographer is? They have great choreo this year but it doesn’t look like Jarad/Tori choreo.

Still super crazy. Making finals here is the goal. Once that’s done it’s really a battle for 3d.

Still calling for a Carmel sweep.

My predictions for the Single-Gender division after seeing most of the day on the live stream:

GC: Carmel “Accents”
1RU: Zionsville “Choralaires
2RU: Fairfield “Pure Elegance”
3RU: Ben Davis “Sounds”

BV: Zionsville
BC: Accents
BB: Naperville North or Noblesville

Each caption would be very close to me between a few groups. Accents has the complete package for me. Really great dancing- hard, clean, and energetic. PE also danced really well, but didn’t sing as great. Choralaires sang very well- especially their altos. Carmel or BD could win vocals off them. That caption will be close. It seemed like Descants came out a bit tired. They were really early. I think Choralaires danced well enough to beat PE, but those two will be close and could switch in finals, and either of those two could be second visually. I LOVED BD Sounds. I love the way they sing and they brought the energy. They could be a bit cleaner, which will hurt them here. I think BD sings better than Noblesville, but Noblesville is super clean. Maybe not quite the same energy that has been brought today- it will be close between those two. Noblesville could definitely make finals, but I just really really enjoyed BD’s sound and show design and performance energy. This was a STRONG Single-Gender division!! I think every judge will see things differently. It’s a matter of half points and what kind of singing you like. Best of luck to everyone!

Just a question: why didn't you wait to post your thoughts after watching New Dimension? A bit odd that you posted after all but one of the groups. I know you probably didn't mean this, but it gives off a feeling that you wrote off this group.

I had something to do. I’m watching it right now, but wanted to formulate my thoughts while they were fresh in my brain. Chill.

(btw- this is why people don't post detailed thoughts on SCC anymore.)

Good predictions and analysis, but not waiting caused you to disclude a finalist.

Just saw your edit. People generally don't take well to analysis that doesn't consider all groups. Which it seems like you missed at least 1, potentially more from your comment.

I enjoyed reading your thoughtful post, Jay. You clearly stated they were your thoughts after watching "most of the day," not all groups. They're just your opinions and it's not like you're not masquerading them as the objective truth. Agreed folks can chill a bit, or better yet, add their own comments with their own thoughts on the shows.

Thanks, Jeff. It was my subjective opinion. I never tried to make it sound like my opinions were the only option, and my post did say that I wasn’t including every group. I just am not able to sit down all day and watch every second. I also want to point out that a live stream can never give the same effect as seeing and hearing something live. I wasn’t discounting anyone- it’s just how my schedule worked out today. This is literally why people stopped making detailed comments on here- they get railed for them. At least I am willing to say my thoughts on a real profile with my real name and location.... But, I learned my lesson- y’all won’t hear from me again.
