It was a great competition.
Urbandale was only 1 point behind after the daytime.
Urbandale got 1st in the middle school(Pizazz), and 1st in the prep division(Vitality)

yah so btw... that is not really like their show....

take their opener and make it the closer.... and the ballad.... oh adam. i think you just need to get laid.

the ballad soloist (Samantha) will blow you away! no joke. and she is one of the nicest people i met at MG! but unfortunately there is no kissing!

Thanks Jay. " border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> " border="0" alt="zipped.gif" /> " border="0" alt="annoyed.gif" /> thumbdown.gif " border="0" alt="yeahrite.gif" />

Hush.

I had an amazing show choir dream last night. The show choir was Totino Grace "Company of Singers". The show was amazing. The opener was some disco thing (almost like our closer, but 10 times cooler). They had like 60 people on stage. Fog. Strobe lights. It was really neat.

The only weird thing was the ballad. I don't know what the song was. But, it was some love song. Everyone was in a girl guy couple. At random moments in the beautiful song, couples would kiss eachother. It was really weird.

Show choir dreams rock... especially when they are about other schools!

I'm pretty sure this competition is going to come down to Totino Grace and Urbandale for the GC trophy. If Totino Grace performs as well as they did in my dream last night... they will walk away with the trophy for sure.

Still need updated schedule. We're coming from out of town to watch some favorite choirs and don't want to miss them.

i agree... totino has the potential to be unstoppable.... here are my three factors that will make totino-grace win

1) How the novelty is perceived by judges
2) No wardrobe malfunctions
3) FACES!!!! (some people were lacking at MG)

In 2002 with our extensions heads were cut off on the tape, but not by much. They were literrally 2 and a half feet higher than the risers underneath our extensions.

FYI...Urbandale passed a bond referendum recently to make improvements to district schools that includes plans for a new 1000+ seat state-of-the-art auditorium. I've heard the stage, wing space, and set fly space will be comparable to the Des Moines Civic Center. I can't wait!

That's great news indeed - and exactly the kind of thing Johnston needs to pass. But, alas - the most recent bond referendum I think went to building an entirely new elementary school, so it looks like the auditorium need will be left out once again. But - while it may have taken Urbandale a while to get that auditorium passed, the truth is - it eventually DID, so there is hope...

Just how much added height does it take to put your top rows into the rafters?

Not much at all. Singers on the back row of the standard 4-riser setup will already feel as though they are about to hit their heads. (I speak from personal experience here!) Erring on the side of caution, I would say that another 12 inches will put singers' entire heads out of the judges' line of sight. The ceiling really is quite low. Be careful on lifts in the back row, and hope that you don't have many tall props. I'm working at the competition, so I will try and find out tomorrow evening and post back here, in hopes that it will help someone.

However, as the city grew (and grew, and grew) it quickly became outdated. It really is an insult now - and Johnston isn't alone in that regard (I know Urbandale's auditorium isn't much bigger than Johnston's, though it is much better equipped).

Also, it doesn't take much of a rise to put you in the rafters. We don't add anything to the standard 4 by 4 set and we've had girls that were lifted in the back row whose heads disappeared in the curtains on the video. Be aware of the space in the wings too. There is 8 feet from the edge of the risers to the side curtains, so you have to account for the additional travel time during transitions and costume changes that take you on or off the set.
