Qualifying choirs for the NC State Contest are listed. Two-time defending state champs Hough will be there. Voyager also returns to the state contest after winning in 2015 & 2016. Also included are Lake Norman and Overhills who both won their regional events as well.
It's awesome to see the NC scene continue to grow. Voyager and Hough have both started competing in out-of-state contests as well. You can see/learn more about these choirs by going to the event website linked above.
It's a regional-and-then-state format. Show choirs first compete at a regional event and top scores advance to state. Any choir can register to attend a regional event. At least according to our records, North Carolina started this up in 2013 and initially had a very "Glee" style and was marketed as such. It's been growing a lot and NC choirs like Voyager have had success competing at mainstream contests like HOA and Fairfield. Hough also competed outside of NC this year. So it's growing and changing at a healthy pace it seems. At least with the information we have, the regionals and then state competition are the only show choir contests within NC (aside from perhaps theme parks), as schools are not currently hosting their own invitationals.
