Most common cause of this is that when combining all three categories (Vocal,Visual,Band) North Central had the highest score overall, even if they weren’t the highest scorers in any of the respective categories

Band does not affect overall score at ISSMA, only vocal and visual.

However: People assume that if a choir gets 1 caption that they're top 2. That will NOT always happens because one caption award says NOTHING about the other category.

A group could technically get best vocal and get last in visuals, so they wouldn't get grand champ.

And in this case a group got BV and another got BC, which means North Central could have gotten 2nd in either/both categories and that means they could win.

People have to think about the math of what it means to win a caption versus what place they got if they didn't win the caption.

Absolutely. CS got 4th vocally in 08 & 8th overall bc issma but it’s happebedbeith other scoring sheets too. Show stoppers for example.
