Live feed is still unwatchable. Really too bad. Tried through the NFHS app too., but the event does not show up as a live option to select and it is not searchable using Wheaton as the search criteria. No support from NFHS. Maybe next year there will be a better option to watch from afar. I was looking forward to watching the finals.

The weather is also pretty bad. Since they are one of the very few comps that do have a public live feed, I feel we should just appreciate that.

Sorry about that Brenda, unfortunately it’s a technical issue that is beyond our control at this time, but will be fixed for future years!

Maybe next year people will have a better attitude about the live feed. By no means are they required to do it, nor are they making any money off this. Just appreciate them being kind enough to have a live feed.

It seems to be a reoccurring theme this year of people either demanding a live stream or complaining about how bad the livestream is. I get that sometimes competitions are of the “MUST WATCH” type, but by no means should anyone be up and arms about no livestream. They’re a privilege, never a right.

Thanks! I seem to have touched a nerve with some. I simply was looking forward to watching this competition which I used to attend locally for years as Just a Fan when we lived in Wheaton. Seeing the what the kids in show choir accomplish is amazing for those not typically a part of your show choir community. I could not tell if the problem was with NFHS or even weather as someone else mentioned. While a live stream is not a requirement, it is appreciated by those who may have friends or loved ones far away who enjoy seeing the performances. I appreciate your reply and would encourage the team to continue offer live stream in the future. Thanks again!

Does anyone know if they took pictures at the event, and if they did, where could we find them?

@ktlynn64 I did! This was our home event and I took some photos of almost every group and I'm in the process of sorting them out and making links on smugmug for all to enjoy, which I will post here probably over the weekend. Stay tuned!

Hi, Christine! I just wanted to let you know that we debuted a new photo gallery feature - just in this last week - and you can easily share photos right on SCC now if you are so inclined! Just click on the "Add Photos" link on the top right side of any event page to get started. We know many photographers have personal spaces like Smugmug or even Facebook (I do as well!), but sometimes those disappear over time or aren't always accessible to the broad public. Our goal with the photo galleries here is to create lasting archives that are viewable by everyone and are in one easy-to-find spot. We'd love to showcase your contributions so students in these choirs may enjoy!

Thank you so much, I'm new to this site and that will be so much easier! I'll work on sorting those and getting them up tonight, because I got some really nice ones that I'd love to share!

Thoughts after watching all groups on Saturday (both prelims and finals). There were some fantastic performances. WWS does a great job hosting a contest, with excellent attention to detail. Shout out to the MC, who does a great job of keeping things moving and clearly loves being around show choir. It is refreshing to see school administrators who understand the positive impact that vocal music and show choir can have on so many lives. Well done, Wheaton-Warrenville South Choral Classic!

Thoughts on the shows:

Twinsburg: fun concept, great execution. Dancing was great, but singing was not quite as strong as the other 5 groups. Making finals at WWS was very tough, and Twinsburg put on a great show they can be proud of. Their performance Saturday in finals would win 90% of the contests on any given Saturday.

Naperville: great sound, best projection vocally of any group. The choreo was great, and vocally they provided the most "holy cow" moments. Our group was surprised at their placement, as we were very impressed by them. Their closer (The Overpass) is the perfect Hot Brockets feature, with stellar singing/dancing to accompany the blistering band.

Urbandale: So much fun going on in this show. Sang and danced beautifully. The ballad is "hold your breath so as not to disturb the sound hanging in the air" beautiful, and the soloists throughout are impeccable. 2nd song and Under the Sea number are both highlights, because there are 60+ people on stage that are 100% having the time of their lives. Their undefeated streak was well-deserved, and don't let their place here diminish how they performed. They were awesome.

Solon: Loved the show idea, and great song selections. The guys going back and forth in the ballad are phenomenal (especially at night...it was stunning to see the raw emotion from them). Great dancing, great singing and a smoking band. Would have loved to hear more of the guitar on the last song, and to have seen the lift get more vertical. Shout out to the Diamond Dave soloist on Panama....dude has got DLRoth's moves and voice down pat! Overall, this was a great show that was very well designed and performed.

Wheaton: First three songs are about as good as show choir gets. Dynamic singing, unique costumes, everyone on stage in character and just selling their roles 100%. Amazing. The ballad (Corner of the Sky medley) just gives you chills throughout (especially for those of us with kids transitioning from home to college/marriage/etc). Your vocals were flawless and choreo was super clean and energetic.

Glenwood: Wow, that was good. When you finished, our group just looked at each other and said "Wow." Flat out crushing the dancing, and somehow managing to sing beautifully while doing so. No fancy things, just straight up killer singing and dancing. King of the Clouds was an amazing opener, and the energy somehow went up from there.

There were 13 in our travel group, and we scored the finals on a "points based" ballot. We then converted our points to ordinal scoring, and the result was.....interesting. Based on our points in finals, we had it as follows:
Points:
1. Glenwood
2. Urbandale
3. Naperville
4. Wheaton
5. Solon
6. Twinsburg

Converting total points on each ballot to places and then assigning points based on rank, we had it:
1. Urbandale
2. Glenwood
3. Naperville
4. Solon
5. Wheaton
6. Twinsburg

Based on either points or ordinal scoring, not one of our group of show choir geeks/fans/directors had Wheaton winning. But that's why show choir is so cool; different opinions and preferences lead to different results, and that's okay. I'm sure the judging was close, and that's because there were 6 phenomenal groups on that stage (plus WWS's exhibition, which was fantastic). I can't argue with the final results here, because an argument could easily be made for any of the finalists taking home the GC. It was that competitive. So props to Wheaton North on winning an incredibly competitive contest over a field stacked with championship-caliber performances.

Big thanks to the groups on stage, the parents and fans in the stands, all the volunteers, and everyone else who was there and made this contest so incredible. Nothing but champions on the stage all day at Wheaton.

Interesting! I also thought Naperville would do much better. Their vocals were incredible, despite the live feed issues. And Ubandale was definitely my favorite. It must have been incredibly, close, though. Kudos for WWS for always getting such great line-ups!

I loved reading this. It was so interesting and really does show the different opinions on the different groups which was then backed up by a review. Thanks so much!

Woah! I did NOT expect these results! This really goes to show that anything can happen at comps! If a equals b and b equals c, a does NOT equal c, at least not in show choir
Congrats!!!

It's a shame that event DVDs aren't a thing anymore, because this is a lineup worthy of remembering. Congrats to all groups!
