The event looks like it took place in 2019. DHS' vocal music Facebook page dates the 2019 iteration as on February 13, but I'm not sure that's entirely right. Apparently Reflections competed in the 2019 version, I don't know if this is normal in the South or a rarity.
Sounds about right, Will. I manage the events list on here and over the years I've been intentional to have a more wide reach to include non-competitive festivals such as NCDA in Nebraska or the many festivals throughout Ohio as well as also represent competitions in lesser known areas like Colorado, Texas, and here with Oklahoma.
Back in 2014, we represented the Duncan contest for the first time. Currently, I'm aware of roughly 4 competitions in Oklahoma: Duncan, Carl Albert, Santa Fe, and Jenks. The competition, for example, that Jenks was trying to host never really materialized (to our knowledge). I genuinely haven't a clue of the status of the others for 2019. Duncan previously has seemed to be one of the more consistent ones and it seems to somewhat be treated like a state or district festival with ratings. Duncan's choir has competed in the past which is of course markedly different from show choir competitions elsewhere. Otherwise show choir in Oklahoma seems pretty similar with divisions, placements, etc. Heck, Damon Brown even used to (or maybe still does) choreograph a choir there! So show choir is alive and well in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa suburbia as well as rural towns.
Nonetheless, we sadly don't hear much from these directors or students. I have specifically reached out in the past to inquire about performance schedules and show choir information and my outreach is mostly unreturned. This has also happened with my outreach to learn more about the Colorado show choir circuit, sadly. I'm not sure from a director's standpoint if showchoir.com's interest comes off as intrusive or as spam or what? Our goal is simply archiving show choir history and being a show choir resource which is what's routinely communicated. Maybe some day soon folks in those areas I've mentioned will be more open to that conversation. In the meantime, we'll continue to list Oklahoma and Colorado and small festival event information even if the event pages remain blank or have inactive discussions. The door is always open on our end!
Wow, had no clue... even what I found was limited, not even Duncan had any kind of results postings when they hosted. Like you said, hopefully this’ll change soon.
