Here are a few comments on groups I've seen this year
Auburn- Seeing you all perform at Montgomery was quite a treat! You have a very dynamic show alongside one that emotes passion and heart to what you all are singing about. Your choreography is clean as usual and you all have a very unique repertoire! Your guys feature is very unique and entertaining (the new guys group is quite entertaining! They were awesome). You all are gonna do an excellent job this weekend!
Petal- You guys have done an amazing job at upholding a high standard of excellence for any group to have to compete against. You guys had an amazing show last year that only lost at one competition in the southern circuit (the rest were SWEEPS*except HOA). Lets not forget to mention how your girls group dominates much of the time as well. Needless to say, you all rock!
Homewood- You have quite an interesting show this year. You have very original and clean choreography. Seeing you guys at Montgomery was also quite a treat. Your costumes are super cool and your ballad is insane. You all have such a beautiful tone quality and can really recreate a "wall of sound". You guys are truly awesome!
Enterprise- You guys have been on the come up for the last few years and this year you really are bringing it. You guys have the most traditional show that brings us good ole singing and dancing. Your choreography is always a blast to watch and you guys look like youre having so much fun! Your vocals this year have really stepped up. Your tone is beginning to sound a lot different than the rest of the south's "dark" tone. Keep working it! it may take you far in the coming years! You guys can really be a dark horse at this competition. You all are gonna do amazing this weekend!
Jackson Academy- Your show is so cool! Your theme is presented very well and your costumes look great! You all have done an excellent job at maintaining your greatness even after attaining a new director. Your group has so much potential to do great things. You guys are also some of the nicest kids I have ever met! Please keep being awesome!
Jackson Prep- Your show is very different this year! Last year you guys brought your A-game! this year you can tell the focus has shifted. Your show seems be more focused on the kids than the score sheet. I say that to say, the kids are honestly having a blast on stage. At that point who cares about scores, its all about making memories from these experiences with other kids from all over. Your show is so fun...I wish i could join you guys on the stage. Keep having fun, that's what its all about!!!!!
Good luck to everyone this weekend!!! I know you all are gonna do amazing! This competition is a really tough one to win, but if you leave your all on the stage and have the best time of your lives, then you're all winners at the end of the day.
Thanks for including all of these comments! It's always interesting to read folks thoughts about different shows and it's overall very well written. Thanks for sharing!
I’m pretty sure the judges are:
Adam Pulver - Richmond, Virginia
Bob Mohr - Beecher, Illinois
Shane Coe - Columbus, Ohio
Ken Thomas - Enterprise, Alabama
Kellis Oldenburg - New Orleans, Louisiana
Milton Williams - Montgomery, Alabama (Solo)
Extremely excited to make the trip this weekend! SOOOOOO MANY good groups! I am extremely excited to watch what everyone is bringing, OSS is truly going to be a premier southern show choir event!
No finals. Opelika and many AL comps haven't in recent years. This contest has Single-Gender and Tier II awards at 6:10 pm and Tier I awards at 10:30 pm.
Lots of great southern groups here. I'll make an early prediction:
GC - Petal (BC)
1st ru - Homewood (BV)
2nd ru - Auburn
3rd ru - Jackson Prep
4th ru - Jackson Academy/Albertville
