City High, great job!!! You've re-established yourselves as a great group of musicians and the 3rd runner-up finish is a wonderful way to begin climbing this new mountain. Work hard this week and keep the fire burning to improve more and more for Johnston.

Milton, chin up!! Today wasn't your day, but I have TOTAL and complete faith in you and your show. This was a tough line-up with a lot of excellent groups, and a couple great groups weren't going to make the finals today. I'm pumped to bring Krystal up to see you this week and watch you all perform next Saturday. Work HARD this week and make the improvements that are gonna lift you higher next time. God Bless, Damon

P.S. Lauren Baker, you were very inspirational. If you end up attending UW-Madison, you can keep your $3.55 $1.35, because this latte your first cup of Gourmet Johnson Brothers Coffee is on me. Unless you're only a sophomore- then I'll be gone anyway. But in any case, you're probably going to be a Squawkeye or a Cyclone anyway, not a Badger like us cool people. ;)

Seriously, I enjoyed listening to your solo in the solo competition, and watching Taylor the Latte Boy. That has to be one of the funniest songs I've ever seen, because you're so dead serious and overly dramatic. Everyone else in the ensemble was also great, not just you.

If you have not seen Iowa City West's show, you may not understand the inside jokes in this message.

Congratulations to all the other groups as well. I thought that Hastings might actually take the grand champion, and was sort of hoping that they would. They've been great competitors at our competition for two years but finished second to Mt. Zion in '04, and GCS in '05, definitely some tough acts to try to beat. I just felt as though it was their time to break through. Still, if anyone yesterday would have told me you would have been as close to Totino as you were, I would have been quite happy, and you have nothing to hang your heads about. It could have gone either way.

Totino definitely deserves a lot of credit for pulling out the grand championship in the end. I really liked the show a lot. Some people that I talked to, who are no doubt unfamiliar with your program, took your novelty number the wrong way. I think you will know what I mean by this, if you don't, go ahead and ask me. (I personally thought it was funny and very well done.) Don't worry about these kinds of people. Just keep on treating everyone with respect and dignity as you always have, and keep on performing the show excellently. Do that and people will know what you are really all about.

Iowa City West, you did a great job. I wish that you would have made finals and thought you were deserving of that. However, we would all be kidding ourselves and unduly insulting the six finalists if anyone tried to name a group they would take out. Everyone who made it in deserved to be there, and it is too bad that there couldn't have been a typo on the score sheet to let seven in. And again, Milton and Mayville were not far behind either.

In the Viterbo topic, David from La Crosse Central commented about Mayville's show that they probably didn't need three ballads, and that he wasn't so fond of speeding up Hey Jude. I'm going to have to wholeheartedly agree. It was a very well-performed show within the parameters of it, but it could use some changes.

Although "Imagine" is well-done, and the quintessential Beatles song, it just seems awkwardly forced into your show. If it were my choice, which it certainly is not, I would actually take out Imagine entirely, and then slow down Hey Jude to the tempo it is actually supposed to be, to take up a little more time. Maybe the show would be too short then. In any case, I don't expect that you would actually do this, it's just what I wish you would have done in the first place.

In any case, good luck the rest of the year. You certainly didn't miss finals by too much, and if you keep working hard, you will get into finals very soon. I really loved your show up until the last two songs.

anyone know anything about best soloists or combo (not from the solo competition seeing as those will be presented at the evening awards, i'm assuming)? and according to the schedule, the evening ceremony was at 9:50 pm, so we should be getting some final results soon.....(looks around, impatiently, while tapping foot)

I thought I heard last year that they moved it up last season already to the same date as Onalaska to give some other choirs an alternative to going back to that contest (especially after the unfortunate incident that overshadowed the 2004 contest).

This is correct.

Oaky. so i got really excited when i saw that OASC on a prediction higher than 4thRU.... then i saw.... it was Kyle... Thanks Bud. :-( But hey, this Comp. is gonna rock.... it'll be really fricken hard, but hey oh well. Good luck to all....

My Prediction....

GC- Totino Grace
1RU-Cedar Rapids
2RU-Iowa City
3RU-Eau Claire
4RU-Hastings
5RU-Milton
But I haven't seen Iowa City... just heard their Concert Choir (WOW!), or Cedar Rapids.... but they rocked last year.

Why is Hastings so low?

Iowa City and Milton, be awesome this weekend!! I'm really proud of the work that both of you have put into your shows, and I know you're gonna turn things up another notch on Saturday. Have fun, be incredible and handle yourselves with class. I'll be checking my cell phone for results! God Bless, Damon

Thanks Damon!

We'll be leaving Milton at 6 AM tomorrow

Good Luck to EVERYONE!!!!

that's possible, i graduated in 2004, so i obviously didn't go to the comp last year. so if it was early last year, i didn't notice. thanks for the clarification!
