We also do this frequently, but the stand itself is taken behind stage. That's the shady part
Are you at liberty to say who it was??

Well this wouldn't do much at must comps because they usually only have the mics on for, well, solos. Unless they specifically ask the sound people to have the mic hot the whole time.

Perhaps you were just seeing them get the mic before the performance for soloists who start their solos from the back of the risers. We do this frequently.

I've actually witnessed a few groups take a solo mic back behind the risers before the show to amp up an alto sax, trombone, trumpet, etc. That's a little shady to me...

Interesting. I always thought you could do this for your synth, piano and any string instruments (guitar, base, violin) but Brass and Woodwinds? Really?

That would be like a Marching Band amplifying non soloists or non electronic parts of their front ensemble. . . Come to think of it, I saw a few bands do that this past Fall. . .

I know many people might disagree, but it really grinds my gears when groups use their own sound system to make their band louder. I understand using amplification to make synths, piano, bass, etc. louder, but when it comes to horns, woodwinds, and drums I feel like it puts other groups at a disadvantage. I don't know, just my two cents

Okay, well maybe those other certain people should understand that this site is great and you definitely have done nothing that would give a bad reputation to your school
I wish they did. I really do.

I am from Ohio, and I remain anonymous out of respect to the wishes of certain people whom I greatly admire. Its not because I want to post drama-inducing posts without repercussion, quite the opposite. Hope that makes some kind of sense lol. I think that my statements, which always come out of a place of honesty and respect, are just as valid as if I were to reveal my affiliations. Thanks again for understanding.

I did consider them, yes, and I understand what you're saying. But, seeing as you're anonymous on a site to bring our community together, I don't know that I can believe what you're saying. You could be from Ohio, or maybe you could be from Minnesota. I don't know that, and it's very important for the claims you're making. Maybe you do have a great reason for staying anonymous, but that's not what makes this site amazing.

Also, if you really want to know who I am, I'd be happy to share it with you, as well as a more detailed account as to why I don't share it, but under the condition that correspondence be in a private message, and remain private.

Hey you guys so I am the kid that you guys think left the stage early. I would like to apologize if it came off that way, but I didn't mean it at all in anyway to be rude. I LOVED WHEATON. I got some of their numbers. They were so nice to me and I was nice to them. I just didn't know that I was supposed to be on stage for longer. I had no clue this was my first time presenting awards. Again I want to deeply apologize if it came off as I was being rude I didn't mean to. I really don't want my misjudgment to reflect poorly on my group it was my fault
Just now getting to read this...

While I do respect your ability to take the blame for the situation, and come out here and fully admit that you were the one that walked off of that stage, I do not believe you, Chazz. Putting a personal history with you aside, I want you to think back as to who presented that 2nd Runner Up trophy to Solon. (It was me.) Sara Jane Klaus and I heard Solon's name called and moved over to stage left where you were standing, and after congratulating you for the wonderful show you put on, and for the captions you rightfully earned, you rolled your eyes in your head and said "Yeah." Then, from my perspective (and a convenient number of other spectator's perspectives) you stormed off of the stage when Grand Champion was announced. Not to mention you exited on the opposite side of the stage you came onto, and the opposite side of the stage the hosts told you to walk off of at the beginning of awards. I find it very hard to believe that you "didn't know you were supposed to be on stage for any longer." You've been to plenty of competitions and witnessed awards.

I have no doubt that your director and educators in MIM and at Solon High School teach the utmost definition of respect. Gary Lewis is one of the kindest directors I have had the pleasure of talking to. And please don't mistake this as a grudge for anything that has happened in the past between our two groups. I just wanted to weigh in my two cents.

I really did enjoy the entire day, and can't thank everyone who helped make it run smooth enough.

edit: rereading this actually made this sound less stern than was intended. I mentioned that I would keep the history between you and I out of this, but it is honestly very hard. You certainly don't have a good track record of keeping things respectful, especially when in a disappointing situation which would be represented here by not "doing the best" at Marysville yesterday. I'm sorry to call you out on it, but this is a complete lie. You were angry and upset, and had a right to be (to a degree), but just dealt with it in a disrespectful fashion.

Don't think you need to apologize, not really sure what everyone expected you to do? Hand Wheaton their medals?! I think everyone should probably just stay in their lane and not turn this into something that is WAYYY to much for what it's worth. Everyone knows Solon is ALWAYS a class act no matter where we are or what place we get! You weren't in the wrong, don't let this immaturity get to you! Love you!

I don't think it sounds corny at all, that is what it is all about
Thanks, Brock.

Thank you to everyone who made my last Showcase an unforgettable one. It was a crazy day up in the scoring booth, and I know results might have people tense. But remember, Show Choir is about the students. There is no professional league when it comes to singing and dancing at the same time. This opportunity offered all over the country is a chance for students to come out of their skin and perform with their friends. It really is a life changing experience what we're all lucky to be a part of. It shouldn't matter who gets 1st or 2nd or 3rd. It might sound corny, but I'm going to judge my show choir career around the connections I've made and my unforgettable moments performing on that stage. Again, thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to watch and/or tuned into the live stream!

There are oodles of "confessions" accounts on Twitter if you want to be anonymous... we really prefer (for the sake of productive discussion, and this is a great example) that those who participate here associate themselves. It keeps everyone responsible for the content of their posts and just helps keep the discussion more civil in general. Thanks.

I have been privileged enough to attend Solon's competition as a student, compete alongside their talented kids, and know them as friends of mine.
