On our score sheet 3 of the judges had us at 6's without any commentry of any kind...Christpohper spaulding was the only one to give us feedback...thought that was a little strange.
How close was prelims, if you don't mind me asking?
Well, I don't think anyone could have predicted these results. All groups should be proud of the performances they put out. Way to go both West Jones groups for making finals and Imagination for besting some much larger groups!
Did anyone get to see Decatur or have any theories as to why they didn't make finals? I'm also curious about both Jackson Prep and Madison Central's shows!

I thought Brandon did an excellent job. The show was very high energy and the soloists were the bomb. They had a lot going on with props. I know some judges can be a little old fashion when it comes to that type of thing. I would have had them in the finals myself.
I was also a little confused by the boys dancing in the all girls show. Didn't know you could do that. In any event, it was a great competition. Congrats to all the choirs for looking so great!!!

In prelims, I was able to see all of large mixed, as well as West Jones women. Based on what I saw, at that point, preliminary results were not a massive surprise. Certainly not a slight to anyone who didn't place, the groups who did place just all sang really well. Decatur/EEE was just not quite as sharp as the others today, but they will definitely have more chances to prove just how talented they are - they have several outstanding performers this season. Without having seen scoresheets, I would also wager that Brandon missing finals was a very close call. They were one of several groups that already looked in late-season form, there were just too many to get them all into finals today.
Now, as for West Jones "Revolution". It's not exactly a secret that women's groups often tend to take a back seat to mixed groups, particularly large mixed. It's tough to make finals at a contest of this size, with so many high-caliber groups competing. Scoring the two divisions is like comparing apples to giraffes.
What I saw today from this particular group of young women was nothing short of remarkable. It was easily one of the best performances I've seen and heard from any group - regardless of division/gender - in the past several years. Expect them to wreak havoc and crash some finals parties this season.
All-in-all, it was a great way to start the 2016 show choir season! Thanks to Ms. Holbert and Jackson Prep for putting on yet another wonderful contest, and to all of the choirs who braved the cold to compete and entertain today! Southern show choir is looking pretty darn good, and it's still only January!

My original theory was that the winner of small mixed and women got in, but after seeing "Imagination," I quickly wrote that off. Perhaps they wanted a women's group in there, but if not, I have no knowledge of the scores this year.

Confused by the performance order, who was in the wigs and did the Hollywood show?
That was West Jones "Imagination." They switched with Jackson Academy for an unknown reason.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaa????
Another shocking year for JP Masters!!!
I agree. Highly anticipated that Homewood, Grenada, and Jackson Academy would make finals, but I did not expect Brandon, Madison Central, and Decatur to be beat out by both a girl's group and a middle mixed group.
