I knew I COULD NEVER GET all 25 picks correct. You show me ANYONE who could. And with the exception of Omaha Westside and the two Mixed Groups from Mississippi I WAS RELATIVELY CLOSE on all of my picks. Off by 3 on any picks in a competition of this caliber isn't anything to hang your head about. But mostly, unless you can show me anyone who had better than 36% correct out of 25 picks, that still puts me at the head of your class or anyone's class. Not to mention that I did not have 13th thru 18th places in order, but they were still close.

As for my Ranking System, many of my picks were not made according to my own system, but my Rankings will be made in accordance with these results along with the results from Show Choir Nationals and a number of the Super-Premier competitions. In fact, I did a better job of picking this show than I did Show Choir Nationals and the Judges for these two Championships were mostly the best.

And as for the thumbs down, you know that they aren't going to do anything to change my way of thinking. It's just that much more encouragement as I proceed with my 2015 Rankings.

I might like actually read through that if the color of the text wasn't hurting my eyes, but from the dislikes you've already accumulated, perhaps it's best that I move on and not worry about it anyways... We will see how many grains of salt I choose to take the rankings with whenever you come out with them.

Actually, no. You weren't. Allow me to break it down for you:

Here are your predictions as previously posted:

Single Gender:

GC: Los Al
1RU: Norwell
2RU: Brea Olinda (Spellbound)
3RU: Carroll
4RU: Tupelo
5RU: Brea Olinda (Thundercats)
6RU: Lafayette Jeff

Mixed:

GC: Los Al
1RU: Loveland
2RU: ATSC
3RU: Marysville
4RU: Prairie
5RU: Brea Olinda

6RU: ALA
7RU: Jenks
8RU: Oak Grove
9RU: Carroll
10RU: South Jones
11RU: Uniondale

12RU: Elkhorn South
13RU: Norwell
14RU: Lafayette Jeff
15RU: Fort Atkinson

16RU: Cypress
17RU: Smith-Cotton

I went ahead and bolded all of the placings that you got incorrect. That is 16 of the total 25 placings. Your little ranking system was wrong 64% of the time. A 36% is a failing grade in any classroom, Jerry. I would hardly call your picks "relatively close."

That is one rocking stat. Love it. Good catch, Jeff!
I spoke too soon. California has also had a Top 5 choir each year. I missed Brea Olinda in my quick review. Much respect to California, but my Ohio show choir message still stands.

I want to give an Ohio show choir shoutout for being the only state to have a choir place in the Top 5 at each and every FAME National Finals- 2011 Fairfield; 2012 Findlay; 2013 Fairfield; 2014 Twinsburg, Findlay; 2015 Loveland, Marysville!

Also for joining Illinois as the second state to have two choirs place in the Top 5 on two different occasions (in back-to-back years both times)! Lastly, a shoutout to Loveland for earning the highest placement for any Ohio choir at the National Finals.

While Ohio sometimes gets overlooked compared to fellow Midwestern states like Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa as show choir tends to be more popular and widespread in those states, I'm really excited about the Ohio show choir community of directors, students, alumni, fans, etc. and can't wait for the future of Buckeye show choir.

I agree. But the only ONE that it REALLY hurt was Omaha Westside "ATSC". With the exception of them, I was relatively close on all 25 of my picks!

I totally agree. Marching band/drum corps/cheerleading/a cappella competitions typically make all of their scores available to the public—not sure why show choir is any different.

Well, I mean, show choir is better than all of those, so...

I think competition scores should be readily available to everyone. Transparency in show choir scoring!!!!!

I think it's funny that two people have posted scores and they are now edited. I think competition scores should be readily available to everyone. Transparency in show choir scoring!!!!!

Placings 5-8 were vastly different than the scores. Now I want to see all the placings!!!!!

As a member of the Ball State University Singers and a future music educator myself, it was an honor to host all of these fine groups. Not only were they all incredibly talented, but they were just awesome kids. They were all so well behaved and respectful but you could tell they were having a great time. Congratulations to all of the groups on outstanding performances!

Dang I wanted to see the scores!!!!

As to whether a soloist covering the choir can affect placements. Yes, they can. CR Washington got a couple comments on that this year and last. But overall, the amazing soloist usually helps the performance rather than hurting it.

Yes it completely is!
We were having a rehearsal one day, and then Mr. Moellenkamp asked us to go outside and take a water break. The break lasted longer then usual and he didn't let anyone in.
20 minutes pass, then he asks everyone to walk in silently.
The room is enclosed, the lights are off, and there are 17 candles in a circle lit.
On our projector screen, we see a freeze frame of some movie trailer, and Mr. Moellenkamp describes to us what he envision our set to be.
He then plays the trailer, and everyone loses their minds.

So yes, Los Al's show is very much inspired by "The Prestige".

I knew it! That just made my day a second time. The first time was from watching your show haha.

Edit: I posted the scores, but have deleted them. My director requested that I take them down. I apologize for any issues this may have caused.

Any chance that Some-one might be able to get the complete Point Placements like we were able to get in 2013??

I just reviewed the composite. The overall score for each group didn't matter I guess. They went by rankings and then came up with the overall rank for each group. Some of the results would be different if they went by points. Therefore, the overall points are irrelevant at this competition.

Fantastic event, and a huge tip of the cap to the people that I have the blessing of working with from Carroll and ALA.....NO WAY I could've been prouder of you guys than I was yesterday!! SOOOOO many amazing show and talent, and it a glorious way to cap off the season. Thank you to the amazing folks at FAME, a great judging panel, and to the well over 1,000 students that participated in a stellar event and day!

Finally, to anybody who is interested, I've started a new Facebook page entitled Show Choir Kindness, and I'd invite anybody to like it and JOIN (yes, you'll get approved!) It's a page dedicated to ideas, testimonials, videos, reactions, empowerments, photos, etc on the subject of students going into their communities and doing volunteer work. Far too often great kids (like show choir folks) get a bad rap because of misconceptions adults have about their generation. This page will be support and resource to help combat that poisonous assumption.

God bless, Damon Brown

Alex pretty much said it all but I'll say it again myself. I was completely blown away at all the talent that I saw yesterday. From the first group of the day that I watched to the last, everyone was fantastic in one way or another and everyone definitely deserved to be there. The venue was amazing as well as the emcee and food (that cheese truck was bomb). Everything ran pretty smoothly in my opinion and the FAME staff and the hosts from Ball State were so nice and helpful. Our flight to Neverland last night was our best one yet and like our director always says, "We are not defined by the trophy we receive but the quality of show we produce." Yesterday was a day that I will surely remember for a long time and it was a great way to cap off our season and, sadly, my show choir career.

Congratulations to Los Alamitos and everyone else in attendance!!
