There are 5 finalist spots. In perlims all groups will perform their opener, ballad and closer only. In finals the top 5 show choir will perform their entire show. At perlims awards each tier will have their own caption awards (best vocals, best choreogrpahy, best male & female soloist in a show and outstanding performer in each group).During final awards, there will also be captions awards.

lol, we open in Long Dresses and close in a Tap Costume... I would Die laughing at my girls attempting to do this format. Bless their hearts, we'd be a disaster. Can you just Do like Opener, Ballad, 3rd Number? And Save your closer for later if costume restrictions wont allow such a style?
For most Midwest groups, the ballad is the third number.

So not to be another smart a** but technically shouldn't this be labeled as a "regional" competition?
Ehh. I know Grand River has always called their competition national as well.
I could be wrong, Patrick, but I don't think Joe was referring to the depth of the competition which is similar (to a lesser extent) to Grand River, but rather pointing out the oxymoron of "Midwest" and "Nationals" in the same sentence. Obviously Midwest refers to a specific region while Nationals encompasses all of the regions of the U.S. Thus, you can't really be both at the same time. Although while geographically correct, I imagine the McKendree "Midwest Regional" doesn't have quite the *umph* to it.
It's similar to when someone referred to Elkhorn South's competition as "Nebraska Show Choir Nationals". Um, no. What they were trying to say is it was a collection of Nebraska's finest show choirs, but that would inherently be a STATE contest not national. Ultimately, folks don't use "Nationals" correctly.
LOL, i'm loving these comments. All I can say is, my group will be competing at this competition, and (knock on wood) I HOPE we won't have any issues with our show. I mean, that's how we learned our show this year, opener, ballad, closer and then later on added the second and fourth number.
i'm also looking forward to seeing how other groups will adjust to fit this unique perlims.
