For a point of reference, at the Center Stage invitational, Eagle Express was missing multiple members due to illness and a number of members performing were ill as well. Additionally, we held our major vocal department fundraiser show two days out of that week, as well as small group vocal ensemble contest. All members of the group were deprived of sleep and vocally exhausted, as well as worried about hosting our largest competition we've ever held. The difference in level of performance from Center Stage to Vermillion is nearly beyond comparison. We are not especially proud of our home performance and hope that it will not impact the opinion towards our group's success this season.
Yes but no matter how many groups, there should be 4-6 judges. With two great groups such as Aberdeen and Sioux Falls, you need things to be fair and having 3 judges isn't fair in my opinion. At this competition I would say that 1 judge would critique and 3 judge prelims and then add in the critique judge for finals. that would make more sense to me.
I'm not saying I disagree with you philosophically. We're on the same page with judging panels. Vermillion chose to have 3 judges, for whatever reason, and if directors that attended didn't like that, then they don't have to return. It's as simple as that.
I don't think it is entirely fair to judge a choir based on its exhibition performance. I've seen several host choirs give a sub-par performance this year due to exhaustion, fatigue, etc.
When I was in show choir, my exhibition performance was where I had the most fun and performed my best because everyone was cheering loud and I had no pressure at all. I agree with you some do give a sub-par performance but it can't be that big of a difference from last week to this week.
This is very much a shock to me. I saw both Claco and Eagle at Aberdeen last weekend and Aberdeen must've improved a lot since last weekend because Claco was very solid. Who are these judges though? I've never heard of them and it seems odd that they only had 3 judges. Not very many either. I'm sure both groups were great but Claco was so good last week so this is very surprising.

In the past they have done the top 5 groups with the highest scores from prelims will be in finals!
I mean, they don't have too many to choose from here. I would hope this is the case as that would only make sense.
