I'm still amazed that they were complaining about losing to Findlay and Mt Zion. I'd be so honered to compete with those two groups that if they kicked my right butt I'd roll over and offer up my left. WoO!

I mean, cool that they wanted to win so bad....I find that the only people that ever complain about "screwy scoring" are the ones that come in third or fourth, and they are the only ones that really care anyways.

While you're complaining about "weird score systems", keep in mind that you're taking the glory away from two groups that really deserve it, and it's not making you look so gracious. Have some class, and give the champs they credit that they worked their tails off for.

i love how showstoppers was trying to revamp itself and all the old problems are coming back!!! HAHA... jaymie what u said was hilarious!!!

ok most people who were at the competition really dont care much about the placings except the greece athena people who were complaining for HOURS!!! i know really none of the momentum people care. we had the best performance momentum has had in the past 3-4 years and we are happy with that

yousmelllikepeasoup was right.... nyc ROCKED but the competition was just weird..... w/e i met some AWESOME PEOPLE THERE and i realized that i am meant to live in NYC so it was a life changing experience!

Well, I'll say that I thought their ballad sounded great..however other than this, I felt that Findlay threw the majority of their sound to the walls...and I'm sure they could've gotten away with this in other venues (smaller, no carpeting, no pillars, etc.), I couldn't understand about 80 percent of their words in the opener, and for a while in their ballad, I was so used to not understanding them that it took me a while to figure out they weren't singing in English lol. I liked their ballad thought. Their vocals altogether were good, but so were Greece Athena's, MTZ, ours, and diamond bar's. I wouldn't have neccessarily put them in front of any of those, or I would've at least had a difficult time doing it. But whatever. I don't mind that they won...I just hated the comp. a "quiet zone?" it was just a goofy comp. I call for a boycott! hehe

hahah for serious!!!! i had a blast in NYC!!!!!
but ya know, everyone talking about findly shouldnt get this or MTZ winning or whatever, i dont think the judges are going to come on here and see and be like omg we made a mistake lets call up findly and give MTZ grand champions. the best part of this all, no one from mtz has been complaining, and hardly ne one from findly has said ne thing!

p.s. someone was talking about how findly didnt want to be trendsetters.... well if its the same show as jeffs last year obviously its not a trendsetter in the first place ahahah! that just made me laugh

i didnt even see them, but im guessing they must of been pretty darn good!

Unless Findlay had their worst performance ever, that comment about their sound was completely off the wall.  " border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

so, I guess the majority of people here could sum up this comp like this: the competition was crap, but NYC rocked!

I'm saying is that Findlay's vocals were NOT as good as people say they were. Their diction wasn't impressive, and their sound wasn't that great either.

i had so much fun in new york! all of you schold beabe to agree if you spend more than 10 minutes outside of th hotel! besides the elevator thing the hotel rocksed and we all loved staying there on the 40th and 41st loors.

Rock on Lawrence north, all 130 of us did great! CHamber (top concert choir)really rocked it at the hospital! New D (our mixed) had a good show, don't be bumbed about finals kids, 8 hours in nyc! to my gals in Hip Street.....

WE MADE IT!! e lost 10 members this years and had so many choreo changes that it was sock, we made it, we pulld it opf with the smallest group there, us 30 girls rocked the hose iI am so proud!

fyi to all the rest Hip Street for Lawrence North won all caps and GC, 2nd place was Petal and 3rd was music expressions

i wanted to thank the guy that helped me climb all 40 steps after i saw Fiddler on the Roof, that was a rough night, thax for catching me!

You wouldn't think that Findlay is boring if you were a college vocal professor.  They are the ones judging.

And about that "best vocal moment."  So what?  One judged liked your show.  One judge out of eight putting you in first is not enough to even guarantee third place.
333531

NO...you weren't even there. It makes me sick... first off enough judges had to of liked us to put us in night rounds, adittionally all I'm saying is that Findlay's vocals were NOT as good as people say they were. Their diction wasn't impressive, and their sound wasn't that great either. Plus 2 judges out of eight was enough to put Findlay in first, although they were for the most part in 3rd or fourth. I'm not trying to diss on Findlay or say Wash was better for God sakes....I',ll repeat myself again for people like somethin_else who can't read.....I'm only trying to say that the scoring at this comp was ridiculous.

Don't forget your other 5 (or is it 6?) Grand Championships, where you guys defeated a MASS of incredible groups, over and over again! (And remember how you were supposed to be broadcast nationally on CBS? Who else can say that?)
333526

Just to clarify, there have been no posts made by any Mt. Zion members on this thread. From those members I have spoken with, they are satisfied with their performance, had a blast in NYC, and congatulate FFE.

And twenty.one brings up a great comment that our activity is subjective! Get 8 other judges, you get 8 other scores.

They should have won easily... Findlay was hardly competition. I had them in 3rd. The most Boring show I have seen this year. All I can say to the judges is, Way to screw things up again!

judges...If you were to see a show again... who would you pick to watch?

I hope everyone, throughout all of these posts (and all of the unnecessary bickering and bashing) realizes (or just plain remembers) that this is a completely subjective and opinion-based art. Everyone here has had a completely different opinion (MtZ's ballad is the best in the world/Findlay's vocals are the most mature ever, Momentum should have placed higher, etc, etc.) and all of them are valid to those individual people. Most every contest (especially ones with such high caliber groups) would end up entirely differently if you switch the judges. Duh!

Obviously, these judges (who seem qualified!) decided they felt Findlay's "classical" style was a more entertaining, well-executed, enjoyable show. Congratulations Findlay on an incredible win!

Mt. Zion is, quite obviously, a fan favorite. Perhaps it didn't score as well as they (and many others) had hoped this past weekend. Don't forget your other 5 (or is it 6?) Grand Championships, where you guys defeated a MASS of incredible groups, over and over again! (And remember how you were supposed to be broadcast nationally on CBS? Who else can say that?)

Just remember - This as an art, and everyone likes their art a little different!

Their show in 2002 was:
Live out Loud
Change a Heart Change the World/The Wolrd needs your Love
He's My Son
Built this City on Rock and Roll/I love Rock and Roll
Bring in the Noise/Bring the House Down

They swept Showstoppers NY that year

I know some of it...
Opener - Live Out Loud
2nd song - ???
Ballad - He's My Son
Guys song - Built this City on Rock and Roll
5th song - I love Rock n Roll
Closer - Bring Down the House (I think)

A question for Mt. Z- Could someone list their show from 2002 (I think)?

-"He's My Son" was the ballad
-You did Showstoppers NYC that year
-You had a male soloist who 'skated' across the stage
-and you had the famous costume change under the parachute

Knowing you don't post, a PM would be awesome. Thanks!

no, they do stuff that isnt pop, you're right. The overall image of their show choir, however, is and has been a "trendsetting" image. They are an amazing group that always manages to keep up with what is hip.

Findlay doesn't try to be trendsetters - they excel simply because they have a flawless show that appeals to many generations of people. And, they sing like angels.

It's like the difference between Madonna and Julia Roberts. JMO

Maybe you have not seen Mt. Zion show. It is not all pop. I would not call singing in the rain pop. You love Findlay. We understand that. Where are the props to the vocals. Who won vocals anyway?

I've seen it I have the DVD from Onalaska! to SEE MTZ!

The way they performed singing in the rain was very popish. I think the song was supposed to funny with "raindrops keep falling on my head" lol, I never got it, but still performed it well.
