If people would like to watch the middle school and 9th grade competitions now underway here is the link to the live stream. It would help us load test it a little before the madness tomorrow.

Random Prep Predictions

Geez that's a deep prep field. All of those groups win prep divisions at other competitions consistently.

I really wish Waukee was returning to Urbandale this year. Just saw their show on YouTube for the first time. They would REALLY shake things up here.

Well, I am currently in the car on the way to Urbandale (No, I am not driving ). My whole family is excited to visit my great aunt who lives in Urby.... and I guess I am too... but I just can't stop thinking about the awesomeness that his competition will produce tomorrow. Can't wait to see all of you there!!

The live feed will be available on showchoir.com?
The live feed is being hosted on the Urbandale Community School District's web servers, but Haakon is kind enough to provide a link on the main page of the site.

I think definitely for day round it's going to be a lot about choreography. Then, once we get to finals, it'll probably be more about vocals/total package because everyone in finals will be solid visually. For sure, everyone is going to have to perform at 100% just to make finals!

I agree 100%. From what I've seen on Youtube and live, which granted aren't always accurate representations, all these groups have a really commanding sound and the musicianship to back it up. So during the day show, I think choreography will be at the forefront of the judges minds, because with groups of this caliber, they know vocals are going to be tight. Obviously they will still be paying attention to them, but I think during the day show they will be very focused on how clean the choreography is, and how it works with the vocals to enhance the performance. Then during night I think the main focus as always will be to see if the group has improved or if the performance is on par with the day show. That's why I think there's no real way to predict how this will go.

This is one of those competitions where (in my opinion) every group that makes finals will have the potential to win it all.

See...I knew I'd get it wrong.
Haha-- I'm not 100 percent sure that I got that right. Too many show choir names to keep straight

Random Predictions:

GC - Wheaton BC, BV
1RU - Praire BB
2RU - Ankeny
3RU - Lincoln SW
4RU - Kennedy
5RU - Johnston

Finally a prediction with LSW where they should be. In my opinion LSW is one of the most underrated show choirs this year I wouldn't be surprised if they redeem themselves from their first competition and beat out Ankeny or Praire. But I guess we'll see how it all plays out =D

Haven't been on this forum since the 6th page...but here it goes: groups in every state are going to differ, whether you come from the West Coast, Midwest, South, or the East Coast. From what I've seen, there are only a couple groups in the Midwest that even have a shot a some of the West Coast groups. As for Attache, they have a long rivalry with Burroughs, and they're evenly matched. Indiana groups, generally are very good, when it comes to show choir. Iowa is a very good well rounded state, but when it comes to facing powerhouse groups, those groups have the advantage. As for saturday, I am not going to make a prediction for the reason of superstition I have, but I believe that the groups to make it in finals are the ones who put in the most effort, and the groups that want it the most. If you are shooting for 5RU, your group probably won't make finals. I can't wait to see some of these groups, even prep's competition will be epic. Good luck to everyone competing, I will be in the auditorium virtually all day, except for when we compete/meals. For you SCC people it's going to be an Awesome competition!!!

I'm on the other side of the coin I guess - in that I think it really could be more about vocals in prelims. But then again - I've always been of the thought that when you tighten, perfect, and physicalize your singing - the energy etc. in the movement will naturally follow along. But also as someone else pointed out - since there are obviously quite a few very good vocal groups here, if just one or 2 of them shows up with a less than comparable musical performance than the rest - it might make the difference between the top 6 and the non finalists a bit clearer. I REALLY wish I could make this! Any word on the live video feed? (crossing fingers...)

Love it when people ask this question. so much better than people jsut getting mad that people don't think their school is good.

You know what I think Kameron, it's choreo. This competition will come down to choroe, because all the choirs have great vocals.
