Proud to be that tap dancing Iowa choir from last year at Viterbo
" border="0" alt="thumbsup.gif" />
so were you the group that had the front two rows tapping and the clunker clan in back that didn't have taps? lol if so, which group did you belong to? ...i'm just kiddin with u
How is Arlington? Our director said they were one of the top groups in the midwest but that's it.
Anyway, I'll trust him and put them high...
GC: La Crosse Central "Grand Central Station" (BV, BC)
1RU: Arlington Heights "OnStage!"
2RU: Hastings "Riverside Company" OR Eau Claire "OASC" (BB)*
3RU: Eau Claire "OASC" (BB)* OR Hastings "Riverside Company"
4RU: Cedar Rapids Jefferson "Delegation"
5RU: Fort Atkinson "South High Street Singers"
*I think that we have a fair chance at Best Band this weekend. At our last rehearsal, the band worked on balance with us and our director was happy. I guess we can't really judge until we get on stage! Otherwise, it will probably go to GCS.
I have to say because I've never seen GCS (we never encountered them last year) and Arlington Heights live, I am really excited. I'm pumped to see Hastings show, too. I've seen it once already and something tells me it won't get old for a while because of the wonderful show design.
We at Memorial are excited to see you all there! Monona Grove is a great bus ride (like 3 1/2 hours or something) and I really like bus rides.

EDIT: I am pretty dumb and kinda (for some reason) thought it was Twelfth Street Singers from Fort Atkinson...totally my bad. And I changed my prediction because I forgot Cedar Rapids was attending...
Derrick, that post of yours made me laugh. I wish you guys the best of luck on Saturday and i'm excited to see how much is different/better than it was at Viterbo. I'm proud of you guys and it doesn't always matter what judges think, as long as the audience is pleased and you guys are all happy with yourselves. Just go out there and have fun!!
I think what really won it for them last week was that they were responsive in a sense. The showband really kicked up volume during dance breaks, (Because they have a rather big show band.) They also responded dynamically moreso (Quiet = get quiet, loud = get loud. Even though balance was an issue. I didn't feel the dynamic changes from other groups were as evident. But then again I sat in different places for other groups and I'm not a judge so don't take my word for it.)
I like to think there is a morale boost in winning best combo that'll carry over into next competition that will make them play even better. (Although the switch from an auditorium to a gym will probably screw them up a little to where they won't win it. They will change enough to where they still have a shot though. They also get to listen/watch GCS before they go on. Hopefully they take note of a good group/example and strive for it.)
They also usually have someone help dictate the balance between the two, and I'm pretty sure they didn't have a person doing that last week.
I just would like to say, that as far as bands were concerned at Viterbo, none were that great. Eau Claire's band was the best band, but definitely covered their choir quite a few times. I think that at Monona Grove a judge more experienced with Show Choir Bands will be more responsive to bands who balance well and there are 3-4 bands at this competition that will do that very well (CRJ, GCS, John Hersey, etc.). I think if Eau Claire's band wants a shot they've got to balance better! That said, if they start balancing better with the choir, they have a decent shot at the best band award!
Wasn't it last year the Brodhead did bad every other week? Maybe they'll have another one of those years. I think Hastings will still come thru and pull out second place.
We're working very hard, and like other years, our show is viewed more towards the audience than to the judges. Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don't. Last year, ACTUALLY, I don't remember to many bad weeks. We were 5th runner up at Monona Grove, 3rd runner up at Suak, 3rd runner up at Fort, 2rd runner up and peoples choice at Altonna, and 1st runner up at Tomah. Leaving us not placing only at Viterbo and Milton, where those tap dancers from Iowa show up. I just want to add that we love our show this year and we wish everyone the best of luck this year.
Are people forgetting that John Hersey is attending this competition or what??? They have consistantly placed very high or even win competitions in past seasons. I would not count them out.
GC: GCS
1st RU: Hastings Riverside Company
2nd RU: Eau Claire Memorial OASC
3rd RU: Fort Atkinson
4th RU: Cedar Rapids Jeffereson West side Delegation
5th RU: Milton Choralation
Best Combo: OASC
Best Choreo: GCS

I think it's kinda nice that people are making predictions! (None were made for Viterbo) But I guess that makes sense... (First competition of the year.)
GC: GCS
1RU: Hersey
2RU: OASC (I only say this because it is OASC's last shot at Hastings this year, and they came so close last week, I know they're going to work at it for another serious shot at beating them.)
3RU: Hastings
4RU: CR Jeff
5RU: Milton (I thought they did better last week than the judges gave them credit for, and I guess I would say this could be more of a throw up for anyone who steps up during the pre-lims to take it.)
Best Vocals: GCS
Best Choreography: GCS
Best Combo: GCS or OASC
(This was edited because I had no idea that Arlington Heights was Hersey when I first did this.)
