I think what he is trying to say is that he found it weird how some judges judge different things from day to night, not that more judges are added. Adding judges to the panel at night is something that most competitions do and it's almost a given that it will happen. However, here the panel actually switches up instead of just adding judges. For example, a vocal judge during the day switches to visuals at night and a visual judge switches to vocals at night. Because of this it's hard to improve on comments from all the judges during the daytime round because at night they will be looking for something completely different and not judging what they commented on.

Ahhhh I see

I always found it weird how the change up the judging panel so much in finals but it could either really mix up the rankings from the day rounds like it did last year or reinforce peoples rankings. It kinda adds a cool flare but it makes it soo much harder to improve a show in ways people want to see with such a change because the people suggesting it probably wont be the ones judging that portion in the finals round.

Ya it's kinda crazy. I definitely noticed the judges switching around. Especially the ones who switch from vocals to choreo at night (and vice versa). Very very interesting. This is such a WIDE mix of judges too. I think anyone has a chance tomorrow, in ANY division. Should be a really fantastic day!

I find it important to have a very different judging panel in finals (meaning add judges and also keep the daytime) because
1) you have the opportunity to change the day judges' minds
2)The new judges offer more critique/suggestions to the choirs
3) It gives less power to the individual judges who might have a personal preference towards one show.
4) If it were only the same judges, why would finals be needed? Everyone would just go home after daytimes barring any crazy happenstance of extreme change/execution from the day show to finals

Heading there soon to have a great weekend watching awesome groups and critiquing with a tremendous judging panel. This contest always does a fantastic job, and I'm honored each year I get to be a part of it. Good luck to all this weekend! Damon Brown

The one thing that I really like about this competition with such a deep field as there is, is that it's so late in the season. All of these groups have really developed their shows throughout the season and obviously that's evident with all six groups having at least 1 GC under their belt. It will be a great showing for each of these groups to see who's really "on top" between them.

I can't express my excitement for this competition!! This competition was challenging for us last year and it's even more so this year! Glad I get to finally go against Urbandale (They are a school that you just have to go against sometime in your show choir career) Should be a pretty big toss up between to takes this one!
