hey to all, just felt that one more ATSC person needed to get on and say random things (jill). First of all, although i am not a veteran of many competitions, Hastings has been by far the best one!! Our hosts were great (thanks you guys...sorry it we are forgetful), our room was fantastic, and everything went smoothly. Second, to Hastings Varsity Group...your show is my absolute favorite show i have ever seen, hands down. I was worried when I heard that you guys were going to do Devil Went Down To Georgia, but boy was that a waste!! It was my absolute favorite performed song i have ever seen. Someone tell "Johnny" that he was amazing! The visuals were incredible from where i was, which was on the right wing. Me and the kid next to me (Dave) cheered ourselves hoarse (our voices cracked the entire rest of the night). Keep up the great work!! Now a few words about our performance...
Personally, the prelims was my best show ever. Then the finals were even better for me. But the best moment was when i realized that i didn't care where we placed. As our director Mr. Johnson put it, "The only people we are competing against are ourselves." Wow, was he right. When i realized that we all did awesome, and that i was going to be happy with whatever happened, that was a great feeling. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVED getting best vocals and 1st runner up, but for me, it was really (and please excuse the cheesy term) a defining moment. And now to Totino Grace...You guys rocked it. I was extremely impressed, and i could tell that you guys have worked hard since Onalaska. I love watching your show. By the way, are you coming to any more competitons that we are? I hope so and i hope not as well, because while i love watching you, i hate competing against you...you know how it is. I guess that's all i want to say, except that i love you all, and i hope to see you next year!! And thanks to all for the vocal compliments...Jill, why do you say that no one talks about us? I say that we do something to make people talk about us, like win all our other competitions. Is it a deal?

BRAVO HASTINGS!!!!  very well-run competition, very nice show (devil went down to georgia was da bomb!  i loved the curtain things), and AWESOME hosts.  seriously, our room was crazy cool.  we were all so excited about our placing.  that was the best we have ever performed our show, and getting second to totino-grace is fine by me!  the only shows i got to see were totino's (WOW), waconia's (both reached for the gun was so funny!  if you're gonna do that song that's the way to do it) and bloomington jeff's, so i don't really know if the results were fair or not.  i just have a question for all the scc people:  why does it seem like amazing technicolor show choir hardly ever gets talked about?  a lot of groups that we consistently place ahead of get way more praise than we do, and i was just wondering why.  do we have a forgettable show?  is it just become we're from nebraska?  if there's anything you think we could work on i would welcome the advice.  thanks a lot!

You vocals are amazing! No one can forget that.

I think part of it is because you're from Nebraska, so we don't get to see you very often. I didn't even realize Nebraskans had show choir until I signed up to host you guys blushing.gif But I thought you were super awesome and I was so happy when you got 1st RU!!! That was AWESOME!

And actually Jill, if you notice, we're starting to get talked about a LOT more. At least now people comment when we're placed high (Onalaska) ;)

Yep. Both Bloomington-Kennedy and Bloomington-Jefferson were there. And if I'm not mistaken, I believe that both of them had their prep groups with. Thats a whole lot of Bloomington!

ummmmmmm wow.... thats really all i hafta say... NOT!

ummmm so i think that we really got screwed over... we performed our show PERFECTLY!!!! our sound actually busted the speakers on the tv and we could still hear ourselves singing... the choreo was extremely together... we had an AMAZING critique, and the critique lady said that every judge loved our show (but i guess that was wrong).  i think our time really killed our placing, and bloomington jeffs time was too good.... coming 2nd to last after a break... they were not good... i actually fell asleep during the show.  bemidji was psycho... it was boring as hell... immature vocals with no diction i fell asleep again (this is why i couldnt get to sleep on the bus now that i think about it)\

good things:

THE SCHOOL ROX!!!!!!! THEY HAVE A BRIDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!

mcdonalds inside a walmart!!!! OMG GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!

ALANA ROX MY WORLD!!!!!! i love u hun even tho we didnt get to talk all that much!

I just want to say that every judge has their own opinions and styles. be careful not to come off as pissed at the judges. At Mt Zion this year the judges did not like TG's full, rich sound. They prefered a straight tone. However, at Hastings it was one of the things they were looking for. There are so many comp's that have problems with judging, i just dont feel that hastinsg is one of them. Nancy Allen and Andrew Cao are both good jugdes who always try to keep groups positive dsuring the critiques. but the truth is they dont judge untill the evening. I can understand how working hard and not making finals is disappointing. But i find it sad when people tear down other groups. these groups did not jugde themselves. they did not pick the finalists. I have not been happy with all of TG's placements over my 4 years, nor have we always finished where the critique judge told us we would be. But hastings is one of the best run comp's that i have been to. The hosts are always really nice, the critiques are always well balanced between postive and negative, and the school is well kept ( good food, clean, ect). not to mention that its the best theater around. i just want people to be more postive and I would like to see less tearing down of others.

AS for our room hosts I LOVE YOU ALL. i had so much fun even if i lost in cards during the lunch break

i agree pat. momentum, you guys had a great show, and i'm glad you came to hastings. i, myself, was unable to see your show ( i was busy playing hostess...) but i heard very positive comments from everyone i talked to (i asked around cuz i had really wanted to see it!) i'm certainly very excited to see you in march at Mo-Show, and we at Hastings hope to see you next year at Swingin' on the River.
oh yeah, and i totally know how you feel about being screwed over, but i mean, all you can do is move on from here. (cough* hastings at milton*cough) now, i'm not going to open THAT can of worms, but i mean, that was a turning point for us, so hopefully you can use this as a springboard for future competitions as well. peace!

Just want Hastings to know that the Hillsiders from P.Hill, MO were realllly sad that we didn't get to go to your comp. Last year it was our favorite one, and we were really looking forward to it this year. You guys are awesome! I hope we get to come next year!
