There's six finalists? I wonder why they changed it? To make it more desirable to compete at? It's already a great competition.

Rian,

I can't say for sure why they made it 6 vs. 5 but I could say it makes complete sense....remember these competitions are fundraisers. The more schools in finals means the more groups to eat your food and more tickets you sell at night.

In addition this competition has always brought Ohio's and some of Indiana's best so I am sure they wanted to have an opportunity for more groups to have a finals showing.

Best,

AC

When Findlay FEst moved from Central Auditorium (seating capacity 1200) to Findlay High School (seating capacity 750), we decided to limit the number of finalists to five rather than six. We also added a solo competition and had the top 3-4 finalists of the solo competition perform in the evening and the panel of judges selected the champion soloist. Since the capacity of the auditorium was smaller but the stage was larger, we had all members of all choirs on stage for the finals. Thus the reason for five. This year, they have dropped the solo competition so added an addition choir to the finals and can still stay within the same time frame. Additional note... Another reason for the move from Central to the high school. All equipment can stay on one level. At Central, there were multiple levels and all equipment had to be carried up and down flights of stairs more than once. The stage was also smaller and prevented large set pieces from being used.

Hope this helps to clarify.

Shalom...

JD Smith, retired director, Findlay High School

marysville is prolly the only for sure one that's going to make finals. the rest is kind of a toss up for the last four spots...

I just realized that this is almost a rematch of Beavercreek's competition. The only finals group missing is Piqua. A lot of good groups going though. Can't wait!
