I've only attended this competition once as a spectator, so I don't recall exactly, but I believe captions are awarded at Ada only after daytime competition.

Earlier posts in this topic seem to indicate that Piqua won vocals and band, and Olentangy perhaps took choreography, but again I think those results reflect day round.

I am pretty sure they award all captions but Vocals, Combo, and Choreo. during the day and the at night they announce the winners of the captions of the day round. I know Wapak does that. It's very odd to me.

Did they not do captions for this competition? Or did I just miss them after looking over every page?

I'm only a lowly second-year combo member from Medina, but i have a theory about Piqua getting third. Yes, their pit band recieved best overall, but in finals they dropped some points, resulting in a tie with Medina. I would imagine Olentangy and Findlay increased their scores (Medina stayed the same, not that we matter, we got 6th), meaning that Piqua's combo may have been their undoing. Perhaps crew?
Overall I felt that the top 6 were all amazing. I was so impressed that so many show choirs could be so good this early in the season! I'm pumped for January, especially Findlay. That will be a doosy, with only 5 spots, and at least 10 absolutely fantastic groups!

yeah can't wait for findlay. should be pretty awesome to see how groups will come out in the finals!

Okay, how is "Olentangy" pronounced? I finally figured out Cuyhahoga and now this is dumped on me...

Olentangy's ballad, Home, our ballad The Distance You Have Come, and our opener, I'm a Star are by Scott Alan (www.scottalan.net). He is an incredible contemporary composer (much like Pasek and Paul). Definitely check him out.

Ok so what happened? Piqua won vocals and tied for band? How did olentangy beat them?

i don't know exactly. i think we got first in choreography.. don't hold me to it. but ya the crew could have played a part in it.

Here's how I had them after Prelims:

1. Olentangy (Vocals/Choreography)
2. Medina (Combo)
3. Findlay
4. Piqua
5. Beavercreek
6. DeKalb CC

I matched top 6 grops, not placements, but I matched the groups ;) I, however, actually agreed with final awards...

Afterthoughts:

Findlay: You guys really stepped it up in finals, I wasn't expecting anything less. I was really thrilled to see you guys try something in a different language since Bahana Haba'ah. I'm excited to see you guys progress throughout the season. P.S. I freakin' LOVE "Coffee in a Cardboard Cup!"

Olentangy: I have to be honest everyone was dissing Olentangy and to be honest you guys came in and shut them up! Great Going! I love your ballad. It's so beautiful, what show is that from? I can't say it enough, I love your show! haha

Piqua: I really love your choreography for the closer, it was cool! The opener was awesome too . Ryan, you're such an awesome soloist, you make that ballad really awesome. I'll be interested in seeing how you guys progress too!

Beavercreek: I freakin' LOVE your closer, I didn't want it to end. The ballad could've used a little more dynamics, but outside of that I really love your show. Can't wait to see it again. BTW: Are you guys not using horns this year? Just curious...

DeKalb: Gotta love that timeless opener . The tap was great as usual, and the ballad was cool! ;) I liked the closer as well.

Medina: You guys are my favorite group this year (Outside of Findlay, don't you worry kiddos ;) ). You guys have a really great team of directors, choreogaphers, etc... The best part about it, your vocals. Sure there were some jitters, but I thought you did pretty well considering it was only November! I will definately be watching to see how you progress as well.

All I have to say is congrats to everybody. I had a rough day considering I was sick and had to perform even though I had a fever.

Piqua - Sadly I didn't get a chance to actually see your show, both times you performed I wasn't feeling so hot and had to go rest. However, I only heard great things about your show! I'm excited to see it at future competitions and best of luck to you this year.

Findlay - You guys never cease to amaze me... I swear you guys can come out of no where and take it all. I got to see your prelims show and I loved it. You guys were great, I love you all, haha! You definitely deserved the win.

And wow... what a tight top three... 1 point between Piqua and Olentangy, and half a point between Olentangy and Findlay...

The year can only get better from here, I'm so excited to see you all again! Congrats and good luck!
