i noticed the same thing with solon and twinsburg. the only thing i really have to add is that i think their bands need to back off a little bit because they were overpowering them just a bit so it was hard to hear from the balcony. even a couple people i had in the lower audiance said it was too hard to hear at some points (in both twinsburg and solons shows). medina's choreography seemed like the same thing we had (cuz we have to same choreographer), but more along the lines of what we did last year. other than that i had an awesome time last night and i cant wait to see what is gonna happen now at our comp. in jan.

I went to Medina.

Possibly the biggest surprise there tonight was Garfield Heights. It was a whole new group from last year. The show is all reused songs, but it works well for them. Possibly the one that works best is the ballad. It is the exact same arrangement as Solon's ballad last year "Light the fire within", but sung, no exaggeration, 8 times better. Garfield's dresses are really elegant and their vocals are solid. The guitar in the closer was excellent.

Medina is not the same Medina show wise. The show really doesn't go anywhere, and they are only 28 singer/dancers. The choreography is even weaker then I remember it before. They now use Antwon Chavis. Vocals are still just as strong if not stronger with the 28 singer dancers, and the pit is awesome as usual.

Twinsburg was solid. So much better then when I first saw them.

Solon was good. Their vocals are much better this year, and they don't have the projection problems they had last year. I'm not a fan of their song choice. They performed well, but their show took me no where. This is the same problem I had with Medina.

I would rank the groups:
Vocals -
1. Medina
2. Twinsburg (close behind Medina)
2. Garfield
4. Solon

Choreography -
1. Twinsburg
2. Solon
3. Garfield
4. Medina

Band -
1. Medina
2. Garfield
3. Twinsburg
4. Solon

Overall -
1. Twinsburg
2. Medina
2. Garfield (I could not break this tie)
4. Solon

So that's the synopsis as requested. I would like to update my predictions having seen half the finals at Garfield.

GC - Twinsburg
1ru - Euclid*
2ru - Poca
3ru - Beavercreek
4ru - Medina
5ru - Solon

Vocals - Medina or Twinsburg
Choreo - Twinsburg
Band - Medina
Show Design - Twinsburg
Costumes - Twinsburg

I know it really doesn't make sense for Medina to be placed so low with Best Vocals, but you have not seen their choreography, and that's all I will say about that without being rude.

*I have a feeling that Euclid is going to be the big surprise this year, and I've had that feeling ever since I saw them at this competition last year. I thought they were going to win. They have so much passion and emotion on stage and they're really fun to watch. So, I'm rooting for Euclid!

i was supposed to post the michigan school who is coming, but the thing is pernod doesnt even kno their name. he said that ada's director told him that she knew a director in michgan that wanted to come and she gave them the info and is supposed to be emailing the info to pernod... or something along those lines. long story short, still no name on that group.

GC-Twinsburg
1RU-Medina
2RU-Beavercreek
3RU-Poca
4RU-Solon
5RU-Euclid

Choreo: Twinsburg
Vocals: Medina
Band: Medina

even though medina takes vocals and band choreography does not help them and with the points twinsburg will get from their always solid and consistent vocals and band twinsburh squeeks by with the GC. Solon, Poca, and Euclid the entertaining still not up to par with the other groups.

hey just a reminder..if you want see these groups and get some predictions for the GHHS competition..Medina is hosting a festival soon. I think its next monday? I was planning on going but now it looks like I'm busy. But either way, Medina will perform as well as Twinsburg and Solon? I think. and I think Garfield Heights is attending too. So go! And then post a review since I won't be able to see them!

yes it is on monday of next. groups i think are performing are twinsburg, solon, garfield, medina, and breckville. will do on the reviews dude.

though the early date of this competition makes it difficult to give an informed guess as to the outcome, i'd say the following six schools have a pretty good lock on the finals spots (though the actual placements are anyone's guess).

GC-Twinsburg
1RU-Solon
2RU-Medina
3RU-Poca
4RU-Euclid
5RU-Beavercreek

Vocals-Twinsburg or Medina
Choreo-Twinsburg
Band-Medina or Solon

the placements are very tough because of the unknowns that come with this group of schools. since Medina didn't compete last year, i have no idea how their program has progressed (or possible regressed). will they still have the same vocal power? is their combo still one of the best in the state of Ohio?
also, Poca was the winner last year (right?) and i'm sure they'll be motivated to defend their title. however this year's competition is far more difficult. will they fare just as well or suffer from the pressure?
and maybe the biggest wildcard in play here is Euclid. coming off a very successful and much improved season, they have the momentum to place higher than expected. but was last year a fluke?

this should prove to be a very interesting and entertaining competition. i look forward to seeing the results - it should be a good, early indication of the state of things in the Ohio competitive scene.

I'll be the first to make a prediction:

GC - Medina
1ru - Twinsburg
2ru - Euclid
3ru - Solon
4ru - Poca
5ru - Beavercreek

Vocals - Medina (hands down)
Choreography - Twinsburg (probably) or Euclid (maybe)
Instrumentals - Medina (hands down)

I've already seen Solon and Tburg this year. I've been hearing a lot of good things about Euclid and Medina, but I have no clue how Beavercreek or Poca are doing.

If Brush didn't go through a directors change they probably would have made it onto my list.
I would prefer it if Medina didn't win GC, Vocals, and Band, but if they're anything like they were two years ago who am I to kid? They will win those awards.
